Registration is now open for the one-day Annual Retraining Seminar. The seminar will be held online via Google Meet. This one-day online seminar is designed to provide graduates of the Virginia Forensic Science Academy some valuable training in lieu of the traditional two-and-a-half-day seminar that had to be cancelled due to COVID-19. Material to be covered will include laboratory updates, cultural diversity and legal. We will be requesting from DCJS to have two hours of cultural diversity and four hours of legal approved for Partial In-Service Credit. The course will be taught online via Google Meet. Students do not need any special software to participate, however they will need a reliable internet connection. Also, if you will be using an agency issued computer, please ensure prior to the class date there is no internal agency policy prohibiting access to Google Meet via the internet. Those who register will be emailed instructions and a link for joining the training session a week prior to the class. Registration will be on-line, and information will be posted under Course Resources as it becomes available. Once you have registered, please continue to refer back to the website for updated information. Please click on the following link to register, Forensic Training, and select the "Short Course Schedule" tab, NOT the "VFSA Annual Retraining" tab. When filling out the application, type in your ACADEMY SESSION in the field for "Additional Law Enforcement Experience". To all VFSAAA Members; July 23, 2020 The Annual Retraining Seminar and Annual Membership Meeting has been cancelled due to several reasons that are out of the control of the board. This decision has brought an interesting situation to light about our Bylaws. Our current Bylaws advise under Article III, Section 1; "Officers. The officers of the Association shall consist of a President, First Vice-President, Second Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Western Director, Eastern Director, Northern Director, Central Director, and Sergeant-at-Arms. Each officer shall be an Active or Associate member of the Association elected by a majority vote of the electorate, except that the Regional Directors shall be elected by the respective active Regional membership. The term of office shall be for a period of one year from the date of the Annual Meeting or until a successor is elected, providing each officer remains an Active or Associate member of The Association during the term of office." Therefore with this current Bylaw the current board will remain in place till our next Annual Membership Meeting (2021) since the Annual Meeting (2020) has been canceled. Our next Annual Membership Meeting will be the week before Labor Day 2021. This will include keeping the current regional directors on the Board as well since they were not voted in during their respective Regional Retraining workshops. The Nomination Committee chair has polled all current Board Members and they have agreed to remain in their respective positions. The current Bylaws and the proposed amendments can be found posted on the website at www.vfsaaa.org Please feel free to contact me or any Board Member with any questions or concerns you would like to discuss in view of the unfortunate cancellation of our 2020 Retraining Seminar. I want to wish that all members and their families are safe and healthy during this pandemic. We look forward to seeing you at either the next Regional Retraining Workshops in 2021 or the Annual Retraining Seminar in Virginia Beach in 2021.
