Summer 2008 Newsletter
I hope everyone is having
a great summer. I want to pass along some important information;
1. You should have
received information on this years Re-Training Conference. If you have not, please contact Fhatima Shands at 804-786-6936
or Fhatima.Shands@DFS.Virginia.gov . Included will be information on the conference, Golf, Hotel, and Social.
Because of issues with the hotel concerning the Social at previous conferences
regarding space restrictions, the number of people attending, and our costs the Board needs an accurate head count ASAP. Please,
if you are planning on attending indicate this when registering on the DFS website. Please pay at Re-Training as soon as you
can. We are limited to 200 people; this figure is set by the hotel because of
space limitations and available staff. Therefore, we will only sell 200 tickets. This will be “first come-first served”
to first 200 members/guests who pay at Re-Training. Also, FYI, just like everywhere else, the hotel has raised their costs,
therefore the Social this year will be $15.00 per person.
2. Please complete the 2008 VFSAAA Dues form, found on our website, www.vfsaaa.org, complete and mail to the Academy by 08-01-2008.
3. The design of the 2008 novelty T/shirt has been selected. An example of the design is on our website on
the T/shirt page. To eliminate overstock and storage issues at the Academy we will be ordering in limited quantities. “First
Come-First Served”. If you need a special size, XXXL, XXXXL, S, XS, please
send this information along with your name to Mark Garman, mark.garman@fairfaxcounty.gov. We will try to order the limited sizes and have them set aside for you. This will be contingent on the printer.
4. The VFSAAA now offers a “Challenge Coin”. Information and a picture of the coin is included
with the April 2008 Board Meeting Minutes. The Minutes can be found on our website. The coins will be offered for sale at
Re-Training for $10.00. Graduates of the 71st, 72nd, and 73rd classes will be presented with the coin
at Re-Training.
5. Congratulations to the 71st, 72nd, and 73rd sessions who graduated this
year.
6. Just a reminder about the Alumni discussion group that Bob
Zinn has on Yahoo (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VFSAAA/). We would encourage everyone to signup and participate. It’s available to every member; you will just have to sign-up for a yahoo account. This discussion group was developed to assist all members with exchanging ideas and new developed techniques. For further information, contact Bob Zinn, DFS Training
Section: Robert.zinn@dfs.virginia.gov.
7. Our website, www.vfsaaa.org , is an evolving process. Suggestions and input can be forwarded to Mark Garman/Secretary.
Have a safe and happy
summer.
